web page last updated Sunday 20th April 2003 130am
Updates from some weeks ago, a lot of interesting things nonetheless.
An initial version of a new program jpeg_to_turbo
is now available:
Print ps + pdf on Turboprint 3,4,5,6,7 via jpeg_to_turbo
.
Use GS8 to convert document to jpeg, which you pass to jpeg_to_turbo.
In the new GS8 this redirection will be configurable by the user via an
AmigaDOS shell-script.

*********** EMAIL PROBLEMS and TURBOPRINT testers **********
Update: 11:30pm Thur.27.Mar.2003, I think my email is functioning again.
So resend any emails that have not been replied to as these never reached me.
I have now 2 new turboprint testers who have generously volunteered,
so I hope maybe we can make some progress on -sDEVICE=turboprint

BACK TO BUSINESS!!:
FOOLING around with JPEGs!!!
JPEG ---> IFF converter available for DOWNLOAD
Convert to either HAM8 or 216 colour IFF file. greyscale JPEGS always
converted to 256 shades of grey IFF. Note JPEG == JFIF.
IFF ----> JPEG ----> GS8 ----> PRINT!!!!
DOWNLOAD IFF to JPEG converter now! Does
HAM8 + other HAM IFF files too! Can set quality of jpeg compression.
I've written my own external jpeg viewer for GS8, this
has 2 viewing methods:
1. HAM8 jpeg viewer, for sharply defined monochrome text + curves:
unbroken curves. Good for arbitrary pictures.
2. 216 colour palette viewer with no dithering for sharply defined
+ many colours. Good for colour text.
Most devices now have an optional script file which can
do anything it wants to each created file: view, delete, compress,
send fax etc.
redirection redirection redirection
Thus my GS8 port now has dozens of viewers, and by redirecting
the external viewer eg Multiview datatype the number of viewing
options is almost unlimited. Any 3rd party can now write their own
external viewer for any of
the many output picture file formats of GS8
pnggray + Multiview with vPNGdt PNG datatype looks pretty good for a WB text
viewer, as good as Apdf IMO with quite readable text.
pnggray is 8bit gray PNG device. 24 bit PNG device png16m viewed
via vPNG HAM8 custom screen viewer is superb for picture docs.
GS8 now has a HAM8 VIEWER from RUSSIA!!!!!
So 262144 colour viewing of ps + pdf docs on AGA OS3.0 machines!
This is via 24-bit png png16m device + external png viewer vPNG.
State of the art viewer eh?
I'm currently asking for permission to include this with GS8:
email undelivered by blueyonder due to "administrative prohibition"!
vPNG will be there though for GS8, email or no email.
The problem of setting STACK SIZE for GS8 is now solved!!
Sending emails about GS8
NEW TOP PAGE OF WEBSITE: REACH ALL PAGES on THIS WEBSITE from here
FOR NEW GENERAL GS8 INFO CLICK HERE
This web page will soon get split into several pages, as its starting to
become too big.
Use GS8 to convert PS + PDF files to JPEG or PNG and VIEW in FULL COLOUR
via your web browser (for links to latest Ibrowse + Aweb see top page).
I should put a link for Voyager sometime also.
BRAND NEW COLOUR VIEWER: done by redirecting the jpeg device
to an external jpeg viewer eg Multiview. Just viewed the Tiger in full
colour at 2am Monday 17 Mar 2003 via GS8 calling Multiview.
I can finally begin to complete this port.
The 2 existing Amiga viewers are going to be removed.
In future all viewing will be done by external reconfigurable jpeg viewer.
This will make life so much easier and more practical.
GS8 jpeg output is 24 bit colour, so this should satisfy everyone.
I may also make external png viewer.
The problem of setting STACK SIZE for GS8 has now been solved.
The solution also deals with any other stack hungry shell programme.
SEE THE TIGER IN GLORIOUS COLOUR!
AWeb sometimes displays this and sometimes doesn't. Ibrowse always displays
it if you click.
TIP: Make sure your Workbench screen is in at least 16 colours via
Prefs/ScreenMode (preferably 32 colours) to get true-ish colours from your
browser.
See Sunday-9-March below for details!
